I've always thought that if words were animals, the RSPCA would be banging on businesses' doors up and down the country. The workplace can be pretty tough on language. But it doesn't have to be like that. Businesses are like people (businesses are people) and what they really thrive on are stories.

Stories are best told in words we're all familiar with. Not jargon. Not management speak. But language rich with the imagination, humour and emotion we use with one another in our everyday lives.
In 25 years I've worked for banks and drinks companies, hotels and economic development agencies, health and tourism organisations, life insurance businesses and universities.
I've written everything from chairmen's reports to bedside poems. And I've seen it time and again - the power of simple stories and imaginative language to transform people's view of the work they do and the organisations they work for.
As John Simmons, founder of the language organisation 26, says in his book Dark Angels, '"let us explore our potential through words, words that soar off the page." I'm with you all the way, John. |
I work with businesses on: - branding & product development - corporate communications - internal communications - sales & marketing
I'm one of 26, a nationwide group of creative and business writers, brand language experts and business people who are committed to a more imaginative use of language in the workplace www.26.org.uk
